It is important that you take into consideration that Namibia has a large variety of terrain. Yes, the routes are 80% on main gravel roads which can change from very good to some bad sections of corrugation, sandy patches tight twisting mountain passes, dust or fog. The tarmac sections are in very good condition and easy to ride. You need to be honest with yourself and ask if you think you have the skills it takes to ride in these conditions. Nowhere on tour will you venture off from the main roads on jeep tracks etc. We have another division of tours on KTM 500s specifically for that kind of trip.
Doing a more advanced training course or spending a good amount of time on the bike improving your skills before a tour is always good. Fitness plays a big part in how comfortable such a tour can be. Distances in Namibia are longer and temperatures are higher than what most are probably used to and being a bit more fit makes all of this much easier to handle.
We will be literally in the middle of nowhere, and mistakes can have bad results, which we do not want. With all this said, this is not to discourage you from joining but to prepare you so that you can get the most out of the tour.

A private or custom tour is arranged for only you and your group and allows you to adjust the tour to your group's skill set. This means you can adjust the tour duration, the terrains you will experience, accommodation style (camping, lodging, etc.) and the distance traveled. You can also include specific destinations/activities if you like. This also means the tour is exclusive to only your group and no other people except the guide will partake in the tour with you.

When planning your flights there are a few things to keep in mind. These are two airports in Namibia for International travel: Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, and Walvis Bay International Airport. While most tour operators start their tours in Windhoek, we begin in Walvis Bay because it's only a 15-minute drive from your hotel, our offices, and our workshop. In contrast, Windhoek is a 6-hour drive away. Arriving in Windhoek means losing valuable travel time, essentially two days just navigating the city and its busy surroundings before reaching Namibia's remote and stunning landscapes. By starting in Walvis Bay, you're in the heart of the action right from the start.

It’s a strict requirement that you have a valid motorcycle license in your home country that allows you to ride the capacity of the bike that you will be riding on this tour. Not only is it important for legal reasons, but it is also a requirement of your travel insurance company. If your driving license is written in English, no, you will not need an international driving permit – your driving license is all that’s required.
If your driving license is not written in English, you will need to obtain an international driving permit. An international driving permit is an official translation of your actual driving license, and these are easy and cheap to obtain in your home country. Likely, this will also be a requirement of your Travel insurance company.
Countries frequently change their policies on this kind of thing, so we advise you to contact the foreign office in your home country for the latest advice.

As with any foreign travel, proper insurance from a reputable company is a good move. Untamed Adventures insists that all riders have appropriate travel insurance in place. The policy you choose needs to cover you for riding motorcycles and, importantly, for riding the capacity of the bike that you will ride on this trip. You are welcome to have a look at Europe Assistance health insurance as it is directly linked to life link which is a local emergency services company.

Our Adventure Tours are supported by 4x4 vehicles carrying your luggage, spare parts, and special tools. We will, however, provide a Mosko Moto tank bag for smaller items you can carry with you. We suggest that you use a backpack/camelback where you can carry any additional items that don't fit in your tank bag.
We do offer custom tours for more adventurous riders wanting to do unsupported tours. This means your most important luggage will be taken with you on the motorbike.

Just one more reason to choose us, we make sure you have luxury in the middle of nowhere. With our trained and experienced team driving a custom-built 4x4 truck, the camp will already be put up by the time you get there after a day’s ride. Every rider will have his own igloo tent with a stretcher, bedroll, and comfortable bedding. The truck has a flush toilet, shower, and kitchenette. Meals are cooked by our chef for you with locally sourced ingredients and recipes. Tables, chairs, and all the necessary camping equipment are tried and tested. You as a rider will not have any job besides riding and enjoying the tour.

Each night’s accommodation is carefully selected to give you a completely different experience from the night before. All the lodges and hotels are 3 or 4 stars. Namibia is famous for its hospitality and friendly faces. Most of the accommodation is in very remote areas making it all even more unique.
