Participating in our adventure motorcycle trip through Damaraland and Kaokoland will take you into some of the most striking and untouched landscapes on the planet. These regions are renowned for their raw, wild beauty, encompassing a diverse range of terrains that will challenge and enthral riders of all levels of experience.

Damaraland presents a dramatic and rugged landscape, consisting of vast desert plains, deep valleys, and ancient volcanic mountains. The area is characterized by its rich geological history. Majestic, isolated mountains like the Brandberg Massif, Namibia’s highest peak, dominate the skyline. Amidst this stark wilderness, you may encounter desert-adapted elephants and black rhinos wandering the ephemeral rivers.

Kaokoland, extending to the northwest, offers a landscape that is both harsh and beautiful. It’s a land of rolling hills, vast open plains, and towering mountains, interspersed with dry riverbeds and the occasional oasis. This area is more remote and less accessible, adding to the sense of adventure for those who traverse its paths. Kaokoland is also home to the iconic Himba people, semi-nomadic pastoralists who have maintained their traditional way of life.

Both Damaraland and Kaokoland are characterized by their extreme remoteness and sparse populace, giving you a rare sense of isolation. The terrain is interspersed with ephemeral rivers, creating lifelines that sustain a surprising variety of wildlife and unique flora. The changing colours of the landscape, from the soft hues of dawn to the deep oranges and purples at sunset, offer a spectacular backdrop to our adventurous ride.

When we ride through these territories, you will feel the immense scale of nature and the exhilaration of discovering landscapes that few have the privilege to see up close. The challenging terrain, from gravel plains to rocky passes, tests the skill and mettle of any rider, making it an unforgettable journey into Namibia’s wild heart.

Day 1

We’ll start our journey in Walvis Bay, renowned for its lagoon with its pink flamingos and pelicans.

That evening, we’ll gather for a meet and greet dinner where you’ll get to know our crew, each other and receive a detailed overview of the tour itinerary.

Day 2

The day commences with a journey through the captivating pink salt flats located to the south of Walvis Bay. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this area is brimming with diverse bird species. Our route then takes us northward, tracing the dune belt and passing by the historic German town of Swakopmund. A pause in our journey awaits at the Zeila shipwreck. Continuing beyond Henties Bay, we traverse the salt roads leading to Cape Cross, offering you the opportunity to stroll among the Cape fur seals. As the day concludes, we will unwind at Cape Cross Lodge, featuring a private beach and steeped in rich history.

Day 3

Continuing our northward journey into what initially appears as vast emptiness, we make a captivating stop at the Skeleton Coast Gate. The area we traverse is rightfully named the Skeleton Coast, renowned for its shipwrecks and tales of survival and tragedy. Our exploration will lead us to visit some iconic sites, providing a first-hand experience of the profound remoteness that characterizes this unique landscape. Exiting the park and heading inland, prepare for a dramatic shift in scenery. As vegetation increases, so do the chances of encountering wildlife like giraffes, springbok and desert elephants. The end destination will be at Khowarib lodge.

Day 4

Heading north into the core of Kaokoveld, the terrain becomes increasingly rugged, with soaring mountains and dramatic landscapes unfolding, passing isolated clay huts of the Himba and Herero tribes.

Our journey will take us through Opuwo, the final outpost offering essential supplies and fuel. The day’s destination is the Epupa Waterfall, nestled on the border of Angola, an oasis in the midst of the unforgiving terrain, surrounded by local villages.

Day 5

Today offers a break from the bikes. A guided drive awaits to take you to a local Himba village, offering insights into their way of life and the traditions they uphold.

The nearby waterfalls, within walking distance, promise a breath-taking spectacle.

For those inclined towards relaxation, the evening beckons by the swimming pool, where you can unwind or indulge in a well-deserved massage.

Day 6

Prepare for a captivating ride through one of the most picturesque stretches of gravel road on this tour. Winding alongside the Kunene River, this route showcases the vital role water plays in arid landscapes. Witness locals planting crops, tending to cattle and goats, all while navigating an environment shared with the ever-present crocodiles.

Upon reaching Ruacana, our course shifts southward onto a smooth tarmac road, guiding us to the day’s endpoint at Uukwaluudi Lodge. Your room promises a panoramic vista, allowing you to observe wildlife at the water hole during the night, right in front of the restaurant.

Day 7

Today’s journey involves conquering a 400 km stretch to reach our final destination, and there’s no need for concern as the roads are well-maintained, ensuring a smooth ride. Following a lunch break at the renowned Oppi-koppi restaurant, we resume our route on gravel roads, making our way to the Etosha Village Lodge. Along the way, we pass through expansive cattle ranches and game reserves. Nestled just outside Etosha National Park, the lodge boasts a stunning setting.

NOTE: The reason we don’t stay inside the park is that motorbikes are not allowed in National park.

Day 8

Today holds the promise of an extraordinary adventure as you venture into the heart of Etosha National Park on a game drive. Brace yourself for an unparalleled encounter with Africa’s diverse wildlife—herds of elephants, elusive black rhinos, majestic lions, swift cheetahs, and a host of other captivating creatures. The sheer abundance of life in Etosha makes this experience truly exceptional. After the exhilarating safari, the afternoon invites you to savour and reflect on the day’s awe-inspiring moments while luxuriating in the unique surroundings of the lodge just outside the park.

Day 9

Embark on a journey southward, delving into the heart of Damaraland, where the terrain undergoes a continuous transformation. The vast cattle ranches gradually yield to more localized conservancies, marked by the presence of villages dotting the landscape.

As Namibia’s highest peak, the imposing Brandberg Mountain comes into view, and the route unfolds through Damara farmsteads and gravel roads seemingly crafted by the motorcycle gods. The day’s finale awaits at Ai-aiba Lodge, nestled within the Erongo Mountain Conservancy. This unique sanctuary promises a tranquil retreat amidst the stunning landscapes of Damaraland.

Day 10

Begin the day with a visit to a local Bushman village, providing a unique opportunity to witness their craftsmanship, learn about their tracking and hunting techniques, and immerse yourself in their rich traditions. Following this cultural exploration, the journey continues along gravel roads, passing by the iconic Spitzkoppe Mountains before heading westward towards the coastal regions.

The final leg of the adventure includes a special stage, navigating gravel roads that wind through the surreal Swakopmund Moon Valley, culminating in the scenic Goanikontes Oasis. From this oasis, the route leads to the last stretch toward Walvis Bay, where we’ll gather for our concluding evening together, reflecting on the memorable experiences shared throughout the journey.
